These are books and resources that I personally use and believe are a great source of information for any author.

Craft

How to write a novel in the most efficient way by tackling the hardest part before you start to write.

This book is an argument to stop and define the foundational elements of your story before you keep writing – which means understanding your motivation as a writer, considering your reader’s expectations, and making sure your story has a solid structure that will hold up inside and out from beginning to end. This clarity is what gives a novel its power and a writer their confidence.

Character creation

Help identify the emotional wounds, misbeliefs, and behaviors that effect how a character acts.

Readers connect to characters with depth, who have experienced life’s ups and downs. To deliver characters that are both realistic and compelling, writers must know them intimately—not only who they are in the story, but also what made them that way. Identifying the backstory wound is crucial to understanding how it will shape your character’s behavior, and this book can help.

K.M. Weiland's website has everything an author could want to know about the craft.

Her two biggest focuses are Character Arc's and Story Structure. To this day I still go back to reread her posts and find that unlike other writers, she explains the subjects in a way that makes them much easier to understand. There is such a wealth of knowledge that makes this one of the best resources around.
